DISCUSSION FOR SEPT. 29TH 2010 "WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE WE DOING???"

Good evening errybaady!!

Today we're gonna take a look at a video that really touched my heart. This video is a special video because it showcases the exteme pain that exists in the hearts of human beings all over the world. Not only does this video address pain, but it also addresses the fact that we as believers, (or non- believers who love people) have the ability to aleviate some of the pain that our fellow brothers andf sisters endure. I belive that God put people on the earth, not only to worship and adore Him, but also to care for one another. This world has lost sight of what community, and unity is. The church is the biggest and boldest example of this reality. Christians aren't doing a dang thing! We go to church, read our bibles and go to sleep, but there are people DYING!!! We are blind, lazy, self-centered and unmotivated to fulfill the great commission (Jesus' last commandment for His church) and help to deliver His people from the brutality of bondage. When I watched this I realized something... I ain't doing JAck!!!

What am I really doing? What are WE really doing? If we are really God's people why aren't we taking care of His children (our fellow brothers and sisters)? We as people, a nation, a global community, as Christians (Yes.. CHRISTIANS) have forgotten what it means to be human. We need to be DOERS!

The book of James says in 2:15-16, 

"Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed, but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead" 

So many of us call ourselves Christians.. or good people, or good Muslims, or good Buddhists etc. but don't do JAck! We don't do anything for anyone but ourselves and our own families and think that we still have the right to call ourselves "good". WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!! WAKE UP!!! YOU, WE, I, are/am still ASLEEEEEP! 

We've forgotten what it means to be "co"- inhabitants of this world. Does this world belong to the rich? NO! Does this world belong to the poor? NO! We share this planet with each other, and in order to do that we must balance life's playing field (so- to- speak) by liberating those who are falling behind or bound. 

The Great Commission

The last thing that Jesus commanded His followers to do before He ascended to heaven 

can be found in Matthew 28:18-20 when he said...

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. 

 And  surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Jesus wasn't playing around when He made this statement. He really wanted us to  

"..obey everything that I have commanded you".

Jesus had commanded us to care for the poor; the less fortunate..the disheveled, the abandoned. He has created us to be vessels or instruments of His love and of His glory, and sometimes He wants to use YOU..or ME or US as instruments, but our hearts are not moved by the burdens of our fellow brothers and sisters, and because God is a gentleman and won't force us to do anything (becasue of our free will) he cannot use those who don't care about being used by Him. This grieves Him because He has promised to be with us as we step out in faith to help those who need us, and we should trust that He will lend us a helping hand, as we help others.

"And  surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

He wants us to think about the poor and brokenhearted.. Luke 14:13 says,

"But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind.."

I PERSONALLY CHALLENGE EVERYONE TODAY TO DO SOMETHING FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS NOTHING. STOP CALLING YOURSELF "GOOD", OR A CHRISTIAN OR A GOOD WHATEVER IT IS YOU CALL YOURSELF IF YOU'RE NOT LIVING IN IT!
