EDITOR'S BLOG FOR OCTOBER 2ND 2010 "A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT FOR THOSE WHO ARE DOWN"

WHAT UP YALL!!! How have you been? I hope that all is well and that your life is one that has been fulfilling thus far. Although my hope, wish and desire for you is complete bliss and contentment I understand that life isn't always easy. Life is an interesting duality because it wonderful and priceless, yet it can REALLY STINK sometimes. We all have different reasons for our outlook on life but there are a few general initiators for positive and negative reactions that affect us all.

When dealing with tough times in life we experience a broad range of things that make life difficult like: General lack, bad relationships, not having an acute knowledge of self/identity, guilt for past mistakes, addiction, sickness, and many, many more! What are you going through today? Are you happy?  I want to encourage you today! I want to breathe life into that lifeless sadness RIGHT NOW. There are a ton of things that we can talk about, but today we're gonna talk about two things.. "The Power of the tongue", and "The beauty in being tried and tested." Some of yall are asking.. "How is this dude gonna say that there is beauty in being "poisoned" with affliction and sadness??" Hahaha.. I'll break it down family.. DON’T WORRY... NOW LETS GET IT!

When I was in university playing football at Bishop's I went through some really tough times, battling with identity, depression, my faith, living in sin and loneliness. I'm not saying that I didn't have fun in college, but times weren't always easy (like anyone else). I would get into these spells where I would isolate myself and speak all kinds of nonsense to myself, telling myself that I was all of these bad things. They were lies. I was listening to the voice of the enemy trying to destroy my spirit. Thank God for the word (The Bible). Anytime I knew that my spirit was draining I would randomly open my bible and allow God to minister to me.  Open yours if you've got one and lets look at something right quick...

Open your bible to Proverbs 18:21. Proverbs is a dope book, because it was written to not only illuminate the wisdom of God, but to arm you and I with that same wisdom as well. Moving on...  It says,

" Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit."

Proverbs 18:21 is saying that your words actually have an effect on the result or outcome of your life. We need to understand that our spirits are like our bodies in that it needs to be fed. When you speak, your words carry power, because they have the "spiritual right" to influence the condition of your spirit. If you tell a child that they are stupid everyday their brain function may be normal, and may develop according to standards, but the evil that you speak to that child my kill that child's spirit and ultimately affect their ability to tap into their intelligence and intuitiveness. The "curses" that you spew out of your mouth and into that child's spirit has power.. the ability to kill in fact. Many of us are zombies.. We’re like dead men/women walking. Our brains have activity and our legs move to walk, but there’s nothing inside. There is no more passion, love, understanding, compassion etc. This is what happens to serial killers. There is life in their bodies, but what makes them human (their spirit) is lifeless.

The same applies for positive words. When things are not good, remind yourself that nothing stays the same forever and that you are intelligent, loved and gifted enough to one day come up outta your situation. Those words will give your spirit enough food to continue to "stay up" so- to- speak. When you do finally decide to encourage yourself it is important to activate those words by believing them. Faith is essential in life, and it validates all that is desired but not yet "born into actuality" (become reality). Look at Matthew 12:37 for further review...

Let's look at the second "ridiculous point" that I'm trying to "politik" hahaha.

Turn your bible to James 1:2-6 (or click on the scripture for the link to the online bible).  So like I was saying at the beginning..  There is ".. beauty in being tried and tested." Trials and tests.. tough situations make you stronger. It sounds like a clichĂ©, but the truth is that everything has a price. Even the son of God Jesus Christ had to pay for His bride (The church) with His very life. Verse 2 and 3 say,

2” Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,”

3”.. because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.”

What James (the brother of Jesus) is saying is that anything that betters you or advances you in life is to be considered a blessing. He explains that trails build perseverance and that perseverance is a good thing. Wait a minute.. He never said that perseverance is good.. hold up, my bad, that’s in verse 4..

4” Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

In this verse James is saying that perseverance is so strong that it changes us. How?? By making us more mature, "so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything". Maturity does a lot for us. It allows us to remain grounded when things aren't great in life, but maturity also helps us to make good decisions in the first place. When we are both, good decision- makers, as well as, level headed when we don't make good decisions we are .."not lacking anything"  as it says in verse 4. I can see you squinting asking yourself "How the heck does this make any sense??" Well.. In both situations you win, because making a good decision in the first place guarantees success, and having the ability to remain stable when you don't make good decisions is called peace; peace is success. James goes on to say in verse 5 and 6 that,

5 "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. "

6 "But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind."

In a nutshell.. James is like, " If you need wisdom and don't have it ask God and He'll give it to you without judging you, and when he does... remember to believe that what he told you is good advice". Once again.. faith activates a good word, a good goal, a righteous desire, and with out it you'll be completely unstable in life. Think of yourself being like the picture James paints when he says,

"..he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind."

Love yourself enough to tell yourself the truth; that you are created by God to succeed, to prosper, to be happy, and to trust in Him for all that is outside of your ability...

Be blessed and have an amazing day.

FORGET ABOUT YOUR PROBLEMS FOR A MOMENT, AND TELL YOURSELF HOW DOPE OF A HUMAN BEING YOU ARE!

 BLESS!
